Vocabulary

While learning grammar and the way Spanish is spoken, it is important to build vocabulary at the same time. By now you have probably figured out that Spanish as other similar languages have words that are female and male. Trust me it could be worse as it is in other languages!!! Since in English that is not available, you will have to start by learning the words with the article in front of it which will match the gender. Following are a few of many words you will learn as you get more comfortable with Spanish.

La casa (house)
El carro (car)
El perro (male) la perra (female) dog

That is not all! You will also have to learn the same words in the plural.

Las casas
Los carros
Los perros
Las perras

Once in a while, I'll be posting a few vocabulary videos and/or sound files to help your brain learn the sounds and you to pronounce them correctly. When studying vocabulary the best method is to try to listen and write down what you heard. Another way used to memorize vocabulary would be to take a piece of paper, fold it lengthwise and write on one side the English word and on the other side the Spanish translation of the word. There are many ways to help you learn but they all involve for you to recall the words. Have fun learning new words a month, a week or a day!!
