Learn Spanish- Verb to Go- IR Parts I, II, III and IV

Verb IR Present Tense Part I

In this lesson, we will be talking about the verb ir (to go).
This verb is irregular, which means that it does not change according to any of the rules you have learned so far.

How to remember the changes?

First, I will show you how it goes. Then I will explain how to remember this verb.

IR (To Go)
yo voy (I go, I am going)                    nosotros/nosotras vamos (we go, we are going)
tú vas (you go, you are going)           vosotros/vosotras vais (you go, you are going)
                                                                                               informal used in Spain.

él va (he goes, he is going)                              ellos van (they go, they are going)
ella va (she goes, she is going)                        ellas van (they go, they are going) females
usted va(you go, you are going) formal           ustedes van (you go, you are going) plural
                                                                                               formal in Spain

Here is a way to remember:

They go in a van.

If you know that the They form of van, you should be able to figure out the rest of the forms.
If you say: ellos van, you are right! Now you can figure the rest of them.

Before practicing with some sentences, you need to learn one other thing about the verb IR:

IR + a: is used to mean to go to a place

Examples:
Vamos a el campo a ver el caballo.
Wait a minute! That is wrong! In Spanish, we do not use a + el in a sentence.
Instead, we use a+el= al
So, the correct way is:
Vamos al campo a ver el caballo. (We are going to the countryside to watch a horse.)

Voy al parque. (I am going to the park.)
Ella va al parque de diversiones. (She goes to an amusement park.)
(Nosotros) Vamos a la piscina. (We are going to the pool.)
Manuela va al gimnasio. (Manuela is going to the gymnasium)
Yo voy a la escuela. Or (Yo) Voy a la escuela. (I am going to school.)
Él va a la biblioteca. (He is going to the library.)
Vosotros vais al restaurante. (You are [all] going to the restaurant.)
Usted va a la oficina. (You go to the office.) (You are going to the office.)

Let's see if you remember something!
