In this lessons, we will continue to talk about some nationalities. We talked about some nationalities in the Verb To Be- Ser and Adjectives video. If you have not seen it, please watch it.

Most adjectives of nationality have four forms: male (masculine), female (feminine), singular masculine, singular feminine, plural masculine, plural feminine.
Example: Mexican

Remember that in Spanish, languages and adjectives of nationalities are not capitalized. For example:

Antonio es español (Antonio is Spaniard)
Él habla español (He speaks Spanish.)
Antonio es de España. (Antonio is from Spain.)
In the first two sentences, español refers to Antonio's nationality and the second the language he speaks. Therefore, it is not capitalized.
In the last sentence, España refers to the country of Spain and must be capitalized.

In the last lesson, we learned some nationalities.So let's find out if you can remember.
I will say the name of the country and you will say the nationality.
Remember that most adjectives of nationality have four forms: male, female, singular and plural.
Others have only two forms: singular and plural.

In this lessons, we will talk about where to place the adjectives. Adjectives that describe a thing or a person are put after the noun.For example:

pan blanco (white bread)
edificios altos (tall buildings)

Adjectives of Quantity are put before the noun. For example:

Hay muchos edificios altos en esta ciudad.( There are a lot of tall buildings in this city.)

muchos: adjective of quantity
altos: adjective that describes the buildings.

Necesito otro carro (coche).
(I need another car)
otro by itself means another or other.

Hay diez sillas y un escritorio.
(There are ten chairs and one desk.)

Up to now, you never thought of having a number and an adjective agree. Well, with these numbers 1, 21, 31, 41,etc.
The number and the noun agree in gender.

veintiún escritorios (twenty-one desks)
treinta y un libros (thirty-one books)
veintiuna sillas (twenty-one chairs)
treinta y una mesas (thirty-one tables)

Interrogative Adjectives

¿Cuánto?¿Cuánta?

¿Cuántos?¿Cuántas?

All go before the noun.

¿Cuánto dinero? (How much money?)

¿Cuántas hermanas? (How many sisters?)

Mucho (a lot of, many) and Poco (few)
mucho and poco can be used as an adjective or an adverb. For example:

Marina trabaja mucho/poco. (Adverb)
(Marina works a lot/little)

Marina tiene muchas primas. (Adjective)
(Marina has a lot of female cousins.)

In this lessons, we will talk about where to place other adjectives. Remembe, adjectives that describe a thing or a person or an animal are put after the noun.For example:

pan blanco (white bread)
edificios altos (tall buildings)

Let's practice using adjectives. Fill the blanks:

Necesito___________libros.(I need__________books.)



Necesitamos__________ mucho/poco.(We need ____________a lot/a little.)

Choose the right one:

trabajo    trabajar    trabajamos

Now, let's practice using other adjectives:
¿Cómo son? (How are they?)
      ¿Su familia?(Your family?)
Es una familia grande. (It's a big family.)
No, es una familia grande. (It isn't a big family.)

Make sentences using some of these adjectives to describe your family:

interesante (interesting)
importante (important)
trabajadora ( hard-working)
amable (kind, nice)
intelectual (intelectual)

                                      More Adjectives

bueno, buena
malo, mala                All go before the noun.
grande          

When bueno and malo are put before a masculine noun, they become buen and mal.
       un recuerdo bueno ( a good/ pleasant memory)
       un buen recuerdo  (a good/ pleasant memory)
       una niña buena (a good girl)
       una buena niña ( good girl)
When grande appears after a noun, it means large or big. When it appears before a singular noun (masculine or feminine), it means great or impressive.
       una ciudad grande (a big city)
       una gran ciudad (an impressive/ a great city)

       un libro grande (a big book)
       un gran libro (a great book)
