Most adjectives of nationality have four forms: male (masculine), female (feminine), singular masculine, singular feminine, plural masculine, plural feminine.
Example: Mexican
Masculine Feminine
Singular mexicano mexicana
Plural mexicanos mexicanas
Nationalities in Spanish
English Spanish
Spanish español, española
German alemán, alemana
French francés, francesa
Afghan afgano, afgana
American americano, americana
Argentinian argentino, argentina
Australian australiano, australiana
Austrian austríaco, austríaca
Belgian belga
Bolivian boliviano, boliviana
Brazilian brasileño, brasileña
British británico, británica
Bulgarian búlgaro, búlgara
Canadian canadiense
Chilean chileno, chilena
Remember that in Spanish, languages and adjectives of nationalities are not capitalized. For example:
Antonio es español (Antonio is Spaniard)
Él habla español (He speaks Spanish.)
Antonio es de España. (Antonio is from Spain.)
In the first two sentences, español refers to Antonio's nationality and the second the language he speaks. Therefore, it is not capitalized.
In the last sentence, España refers to the country of Spain and must be capitalized.
